Purpose
Being a supervisor is difficult - you are responsible for quality
control, skill training, shaping a creative staff, providing sound
treatment, and supporting and advocating for staff while also
serving as a voice of management. Making it all the more difficult
is the fact that most supervisors assume their jobs with little
supervisory training and often with just a few years of job
experience.
The purpose of this program is to provide a comprehensive and
dynamic understanding of the supervisory process. Numerous aspects
involved in the supervisory process will be explored in-depth as
they pertain to the supervisor and the supervisee.
This program will teach you to recognize the four stages of
professional development. By understanding them, you will be able to
anticipate the challenges and needs of your supervisees so that the
supervision can change as the clinician naturally grows and changes.
In addition, through lecture, case examples and experiential
exercises you will learn about the practical aspects of the work -
how to resolve conflicts, avoid liability, create good staff morale,
and hire and fire. You will become familiar with group supervision,
evaluations, the challenges of being a new supervisor and, most
importantly, how to be a more creative supervisor so your staff can
become more effective.
